As we embarked on our mission to traverse every Wainwright, Troutbeck Tongue served as our welcoming introduction to the fells. Troutbeck village serves as the perfect launchpad, with its quaint stone cottages and lush pastures encasing it like a warm embrace. Ample parking spaces are available, particularly near local pubs such as The Queen’s Head and The Mortal Man. The journey kicks off with an easy stroll along Ing Lane, which gradually leads you into the heart of the enchanting countryside.
As we meandered through farmland, rustic dry-stone walls flanked our path, and the simple joy of watching Herdwick sheep grazing nearby amplified the sense of calm. The sound of the babbling Trout Beck stream is a constant companion that enhances the tranquility of the surrounding landscape.
